Details

Dr Kirsten Small is an obstetrically trained educator and researcher. Her PhD research focused on the use of central fetal monitoring. Kirsten's goal is to ensure all women are provided with accurate information about their options for fetal monitoring. She lives on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.

About the workshop: Fetal monitoring during labour is a vital midwifery skill, yet the evidence behind the practices of CTG use and intermittent auscultation are not often taught. Myths are common and few women are given an opportunity for informed consent. This three hour workshop will teach you everything you need to have confident conversations with women about their options.
You'll learn:
What the research comparing CTG monitoring with intermittent auscultation actually says
The one group of women who might benefit from CTG use
Why decelerations in the second stage of labour are not "normal"
The two questions you must ask when using intermittent auscultation
How and when to listen and what the best device for intermittent auscultation is
Food Provided (Morning tea refreshments )
