ACU FC win the AAS1 Grand Final

ACU FC have their most successful season ever

ACU Football Club - Thursday, February 26
 General

ACU FC completed their most successful season ever with a total of six pieces of silverware, the most in the club’s history – surpassing the three trophies won in 2022.

Three teams in the purple and white won the league and grand final double with the Men’s Sunday Div 1, Women’s Div 2, and Men’s Div 14 all winning the premiership and championship.

The Sunday Div 1 team won the premiership finishing one point ahead of second place, and claimed the championship with a 3-2 victory over Strathfield in the grand final courtesy of an extra time golden goal.

Women’s Div 2 secured a unique achievement with their victory. Having achieved promotion after winning the Div 5 grand final in 2024 – the team were dominant all season to secure back-to-back titles.

They finished five points clear at the top of the table to clinch the premiership, before a 2-0 victory over Concord in the grand final saw them win their second consecutive championship.

The club’s remaining two trophies were won by the Div 14 team who secured the premiership with a five-point gap between themselves and second place. They won the double with a 2-1 victory over Marrickville.

These six trophies are added to the Ashleigh Campbell Shield and ACU FC shield won in pre-season.

2025 also marked the first year that ACU FC had both a Bill Brackenbury Premier League and Grace Martin Premier League team.

Both sides competed well with the men finishing in third place and the women narrowly missing out on finals, finishing one point behind fourth position.

Individual awards

A number of ACU FC individuals were recognised both inside and outside of the club throughout the year.

Jamaya Shearer was awarded the 2025 Bill Brackenbury Premier League Golden Boot from Football Canterbury, as he finished as the top goalscorer in the region’s top men’s division.

Christian Layland was recognised with a 2025 Inner West Council Sports Volunteer Award, celebrating his volunteer work with the club.

At the club’s Annual Awards Night, three club-wide awards were announced: Ibrahim Santangelo as the Club Golden Glove, Andrew Fathers as the Club Person of the Year, and Aanjali Mahinkanda as the Club Referee of the Year (for the second consecutive year).

The Awards Night also celebrated a number of players who reached their 50th match for ACU during 2025. A full list of 50-game players can be found on our Loyalty Program page.
