  • YOU ARE ENOUGH - A MENTAL HEALTH SUITE

You Are Enough - A Mental Health Suite

By Aron Accurso & Rachel Griffin Accurso

Listen to part tracks on SOUNDCLOUD

    I. Inside the Storm

    Movement 1 (a cappella)

    Lyrics:

If thoughts come like rain, and wind knocks you down,

    You feel lost at sea, all alone;

Too tired to swim, afraid you might drown,

You don’t have to fight on your own.

I’ll ride the current beside you.

    I’ve been there before.

An ocean of fear that goes on and on,

But trust me, there is shore.

When thoughts flood your mind, the tide pulls you in,

And waves break, but you can’t break through,

I’ll stay with you inside the storm,

    I’ll stay with you.

We don’t have to smile and say there’s sun.

We don’t have to lie and say it’s warm.

    We’ll find our way through fog and freezing rain;

We’ll make it through the storm.

If you’re overwhelmed by water and wind

And hope is a world out of view,

I’ll stay with you inside the storm,

    I’ll stay with you.

    LYRICS:

You are -- “I’m not enough.”

[Singer exclaim fears of not being enough.]

    You are -- “I’m a          .”

[Singers exclaim a word that has hurt them in the past.]

You are -- you are strong

    “I’m weak”, “I’m          .”

    You are -- brave. “I’m            .”

    You are –

    [More singers exclaim their words.]

    You are –

    I’m not good enough.

    You are worthy.

I’m the only one. I’m alone.

    You are not alone.

    I never will.

You will -- [Singers sing a thought that has hurt them]

    Let it go.

    Breathe, just breathe.

You are brave. You are worthy. You are strong. You are loved. You’re okay.

    III. You Are Enough

    Movement 3 (choir, accompanied).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHOIR: The following instructions are entirely optional. (Please ignore if your choir is learning the music as-written).

    In general:

    • Altos sing the Alto 2 line and omitting the Alto 1 part (except as noted).
    • Sopranos sing the Sop 1 part and mostly omit Sop 2 (except as needed).
    • Tenors sing Tenor 1, mostly omitting Tenor 2.
    • Basses split according to an individual's vocal range, treating the parts as Baritone and Bass. When the bass part is very high toward the end of the movement,  some adjustments are made as noted below. These will be reflected in the rehearsal tracks on SoundCloud. A marked-up score (PDF) will be available, showing the revisions.

    SPECIFICS:

    • Bars 3- will be sung by sopranos and altos
    • Bars 7- will be sung by tenors and basses
    • Bar 23: add a crescendo (then dim. Bar 24)
    • Bars 26-28 and Bar 41: omit 2nd soprano
    • Bar 48: Tenors sing Bb for a crotchet, then jump to T2 for the rest of the bar.
    • Bars 56-57: Basses sing in unison with Alto from "It's unbelievable", then sing the Sop2 part from Bar 59-63. In bar 63, basses return to their written part from "It's unbelieveable" with the option to sing 8vb from here to the end.
    • Bars 60-63: Tenors sing the written Bass part. Return to the written tenor part from bar 64.
    • Final bar: A small number of Sopranos will sing E-A (instead of the tenors).

    LYRICS:

You’ve carried words that aren’t true so long:

The labels they put on you.

You’ve gotten lost in these storms of thoughts,

And forgotten the way to break through.

Erase them one by one you’re not who they decide.

You are enough. You’re so enough. It’s unbelievable how enough you are.

You’ve let them write who you are, so far,

They’re wrong, you are up to you.

You’ve gone adrift in a sea of doubt

And forgotten the love that you knew.

Write your life in bold, there’s no reason to hide.

You are enough. You’re so enough. It’s unbelievable how enough you are.

Let the light come in and find a home in you. Let the light multiply with everything you do.

You are enough. You’re so enough.

It’s unbelievable how enough you are, You are,

    You are! You are enough!
