Meet our 2024 Society Leadership Team

The Brisbane Speech Pathology Society is run by a group of volunteer students. The Executive team includes the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. These students work with ACU Student Life and Faculty Staff within their roles, and attend a short training course at the beginning of the year to help them prepare for their executive roles.

Other positions within the society include the year level reps, SPA rep, social media officer, newsletter officer, MISP officer and UTE officer. Students who hold these roles are expected to attend monthly society meetings. The large number of available roles within our society means that the task of running a successful society is shared between many, who work together as a team. It also means there is lots of opportunity for students to take on a volunteer role which suits their individual capacity and interests.

President

Mackayla Paul

The President is the leader and official spokesperson of the society. They carry the greatest amount of responsibility. The President is primarily responsible for ensuring that the society is meeting its obligations under ACU’s Society and Clubs Rules & Guidelines and is the primary University contact. Furthermore, they are responsible for the management of the committee, oversee all plans and ensure the society goals are met.

Mackayla is a third year Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) student at ACU, Brisbane.

With a strong interest in supporting adults post-traumatic brain injury and progressive neurological diagnosis, Mackayla is living her best life this year as she dives into her first adult placement.

Social Media Officer

Announcing soon!

The Social Media Officer is the face of the Society and is responsible for the online branding. They act as a bridge between the student members and the Executive Team as they are the first point of contact online and ensure the Society is engaging with all students. They are also responsible for the assistance with all online marketing campaigns, ensuring online student engagement and maintaining a high professional standard online.

Newsletter Officer

Abby Nesbitt

The Monthly Newsletter is an important part of the society. The main aim of the newsletter is to showcase the events and activities which have occurred in the previous month, and advertise activities and events for the following month. The newsletter also gives our members a way to ‘connect’ with regular features such as the student spotlight. The student society encourages engagement from our members, and seeks to publish articles that are of interest to our current membership. Newsletters are sent out to members via email each month, with printed hard copies being available on campus, and featuring at events.

The UTE officer is responsible for the running of the UTE program including ensuring appropriate storage of donated items.

Caity (Caitlin) is in her second year at ACU studying Speech Pathology in Brisbane. Currently she is interested in pursuing a career within the NDIS space working with clients who have complex disabilities but is keen to explore different sectors whilst at uni!

Caity is a big sports fan, netball was her first love and she enjoys a good challenge. She uses food and cuddles with her dog to carry her through each semester :)

Meet Your Year Level Reps

The Society benefits from at least 1 Year Level Representative from each of the Speech Pathology cohorts- 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year. The Year Level Representative is an important line of communication between the Society and their respective cohort. They relay information to their peers and bring feedback and ideas from the student body to the society. They are an important participant at monthly meetings and play a key role in planning events based on their cohorts’ interests, ideas and feedback.
